It is the story of trans gendered astronauts and what happens to them on the planet Vegas. It is filled with star performances by S.F. female impersonators. Persecuted under the military dictatorship due to his assumed homosexuality, the writer Manuel Puig, author of Kiss of the Spider Woman, went to live in Rio de Janeiro in the 1970´s and 1980´s. Living in an apartment in a large city, Puig led a an intense life in the city. The film follows his various loves, as well as his friendships with a diplomat, a languages teacher and an Argentinian theater star. It also highlights his personality as a dreamer who is fascinated by old Hollywood films and stars.

Very Brady Sequel, A RuPaul is back in this Brady bunch sequel as again the guidance counselor at school and she is the only reason to watch this film. Phillip

 

Very Different Story, A Director: Paul Aaron 1978: USA: 109 Minutes : Gay / Lesbian main characters With Perry King and Meg Foster: This is the story of Albert who is an illegal foreigner living in the USA. He meets Stella. and it turns out she likes girls  and he likes guys. Stella decides to help Albert out of his problem by marrying him,  so he can stay in the USA. They enter into a strange relationship and discover that he is the perfect house keeper and she has a good job and is the perfect money maker. To find out what happens to the two of them see the film ! Phillip Note: By the way it is a Hollywood film and a quite early try at a subject that Hollywood had trouble with until later on when they discovered that there was money to be made with these subjects.

 

Versace Murder, The Director: Menahem Golan USA: 1998: 91 Minutes With: Franco Nero and Steven Bauer: My Goodness  - they had this movie filmed before Versace was cold. It is film on a tight budget and made directly on to video. All kidding aside it is a very interesting film about the killing of Versace by Andrew Cunanan. I found it interesting anyway ! and it moved me that we lost Versace at the height of his career ! Phillip

 

Very Natural Thing, A Director: Christopher Larkin USA: 1974: 85 Minutes With: Robert Joel and Bo White This is the story of a young man who leaves the priesthood to come to terms with his being gay. In 1974 it was a a real ground breaker but now when i viewed it again it is still a very good film but there are other recent films which explore this subject also such as The Priest. Phillip Note. Films like this broke the path for the newer films to be made so if you get a chance see this one !

Via Appia Director: Jochen Hick Germany: 1992: 90 Minutes:  Drama / Gay / Aids With: Peter Senner, Guilherme de Padua, and Yves Jansen: This is the story of a steward who works for Lufthansa and his search for a young hustler called Mario from Rio de Janeiro. The reason he is looking for him is that the hustler has a one night stand with him and then left a message "Welcome to the AIDS club.". The steward gets Aids and want to find out why the hustler did it. If he finds him you will only know if you see the film ! Phillip

 

Victim Director: Basil Dearden UK: 1961: 96 Minutes: Drama / Gay With Dirk Bogarde, Sylvia Slims, Dennis Price, Nigel Stock, and Peter McEnergy: When films in the USA were still refusing to show gays and the only gays shown were ones who killed themselves because there was shame, this film from the UK shows the story of a lawyer who is married and yet gets involved with a young drifter. Then there is blackmail attempts and the lawyer must face the fact that the world and his wife will find out. Being gay is shown here with a light towards understanding being gay. I like this film as it took a different stance than the other films from it's time. Phillip

 

View from the top   USA: 2003 Directed by Bruno Barreto With:Gwyneth Paltrow, Christina Applegate, Mike Myers, Mark Ruffalo, Candice Bergen Gay minor character What a great line up of stars, eh? Some really nice gay icons among those actors. The movie itself is a pleasant, innocent romantic comedy about Donna, (Paltrow) a girl who comes from a poor family but wants to better herself. So she becomes a flight attendant after getting some advice on career opportunities. Donna starts off on a budget airline but upgrades along the way and even gets a great looking guy in the end. No surprises in that storyline. The gay stuff? One of Donna's friends is Randy, a gay flight attendant (isn't there always a gay flight attendant?) Randy steals some scenes with salty one-liners in the typical Hollywood "bitchy" style. Played by Joshua Malina, who you may recognize from his role in the hit TV-series "the West wing". I guess it's made for teenage girls, which worries me, because I quite like it! Phillip

 

Victor / Victoria Director: Blake Edward USA: 1982: 135 Minutes.: Gay Main Characters With Julia Andrews, James Gardner, Robert Preston and Alex Karras: What can I say about this film - Julie Andrews is a woman – playing a gay man – playing a a female impersonator and has a gay roommate (played wonderfully by  Robert Preston). She/he is pursued by James Gardner who never quite believes that Julia is a gay man. It is set in Paris in the 1930 and is a remake from the German film. The coming out of the body guard is also wonderful to see. Phillip Note: If you are one of the 10 people who have not yet seen this film – rush out and see it !!!

 

Village Affair, A Director: Moira Armstrong UK: 1994: 137 Minutes: Lesbian With: Sophie Ward and Nathaniel Parker This is the story of Alice who marries a man called Martin who is both rich and very boring. Together they move to the country where her life takes a twist. They meet a woman called Clodagh. Martin tried to flirt with her but she has her eyes on Alice. Alice also finds herself attracted to Clodagh. See the film to see who ends up with who ! Phillip

 

Violet's Visit Director: Richard Turner Australia: 1995: 95 Minutes: Gay main characters With: May Lloyd and Galeb Packham: The Australians seem to be making very good films about Gays and this is one of them. It is the story of Violet who is a 15 year old girl  who runs away from home to go be with her father. When she gets to him she finds out that her father lives with another man. The rest of the film explores this situation. Phillip

 

Virgin Machine Director: Monika Treut 1992: 91 Minutes: Lesbian main characters: A German woman who works as a journalist is in S.F. and decides to take a look at the Lesbian side of S.F. and much to her surprise she becomes involved with a female strip-tease artist. She must look into her erotic feelings for the other woman and see if it is what she wants. Phillip Note: Made on a small budget but that does not mean it is not a good film to see.

 

Virus Knows No Morals, A (Original title: Ein Virus kennt keine Moral) Director: Rosa Von Praunheim Germany (West): 1986: 82 Minutes:  Gay/Drag/Aids - Comedy With:  Dieter Dicken, Maria Hasenacker, Christian Kesten and Rosa von Praunheim: This is a weird look at a gay sauna. The message is bought to you in singing numbers and drag numbers that AIDS is a damper on the sauna business. Some find this film funny and some find it in bad taste - see it and decide for yourself. Phillip

 

Vito and the others Director: Antonio Capuano Italy: 1991: 90 Minutes: This is the story of your homeless boys who are living on the streets of Naples and committing crimes which include drug deals and prostitution. One of them is Vito who is also on the street and committing crimes. He finally is sent to jail for a drug crime. Inside the prison he is raped repeatedly by a 16 year old boy. When he gets out of prison he is cold and without feelings for anything or anyone. The film includes the boys being photographed clothed and nude. Phillip _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Von Mann zu Mann (rough translation: From Man to Man)  Germany: Drama TV Gay Erotic Soap in 12 Episodes of 30 mins:from Andreas Weiss: There is a small line between a Porno production and this soap opera. It pushed the line on what can be shown on TV and succeeds - so in effect it is a ground breaker. It continues the story line of Martin (Philipp Thürigen) and Holger (Rainer Hillebrecht) who were in Montagsgeschichten plus continues the story of Power-Lesbian Lisa (Yvonne Haß) and Ruben (Christian Kaufmann) from Montagskinder ! But do not think that it stops there as there are new characters such as Adrian played by the singer and entertainer Donato Plögert. and to top that the "Black American Boy" Kitt Baker who is well known for both his porno films and his erotic shows and be sure you won´t be disappointed as he will shows all ! So just another reason to continue the adventures in this 12 epsiode Erotic soap opera. You will be amazed that it was shown on German TV. Note: ran from October 1998 – January 1999.
