They decide to play a game with the name Taboo and it triggers taboo subjects such as homosexuality and various other sexual desires. This game causes some of the students to go a bit mad and they start killing each other in strange ways. Quite interesting film and well worth a peek if only to discover which subjects are TABOO!

Talladega nights – the ballad of Ricky Bobby

Director: Adam McKay
USA: 2006
With: Will Ferrell, Sacha Baron Cohen

One of the funniest movies of the year, and a real kick in the butt to stupid red-necks everywhere. It could have been the cousin of "Dumb and dumber", but the script is too clever for that.

Ricky Bobby is a NASCAR-driver. (NASCARS are race-cars that only do left turns on a closed circuit), He has a simple mind, but a "take-no-prisoners" attitude on the track. His spectacular stunt driving makes him very popular with the crowds. One day Jean Girard, a European Formula 1 champion arrives in the USA ready to challenge Ricky Bobby for the title.

This doesn't sound very gay, but it sure is! From the moment Sacha Baron Cohen enters the picture we're treated to a truckload of gayness, silly jokes and a man to man kiss of epic proportions. The movie was also commercially successful, AND doesn't make fun of gays, a great thing coming from Hollywood.

Note: (The smooch between Cohen and Ferrell made headlines when it won the MTV-award "Best movie kiss of the year".)

He gets a lover along the way and the lover wants him to stay at home and be with him but this just doesn't work as he is such a sex fiend that he leaves his sick bed in the hospital to take a taxi to a cruising toilet for sex. Very interesting film and a good coming out scene as he is a teacher and comes to school in drag after an all night out on the town. The kids ask and he tells. If all this sex finally gets to him - see the film and find

Tea and Sympathy
(German title: Anders als die anderen)

Director: Vincente Minnelli
USA; 1956
With: Deborah Kerr as Laura Reynolds and John Kerr as Tom Robinson Lee:

This film is a film about stupid people who think that you can label a person gay and
then torment that person. It is the story of Tom Lee who is 17 years old, quite attractive, a little on the sensitive side and at college. He does not like sports or the things that normal 17 year old males like. There is only one person who believes in him and this is Laura Reynolds. She is married and her husband also makes life hell on earth for Tom. Anyway she tries to understand him and ends up taking the young boy to bed – proving that he is sensitive but heterosexual too. This encounter helps Tom out and he is able to go on  with his life but Laura loses everything – her husband and her place in the college society. All in all this film is a must see at it is made in 1956 when the subject of being gay and tormented by others was very rare. This was also a play in the 50´s.

There is one line from the film that most people remember: It is said by Laura to Tom as they go to bed:

Quote: Years from now when you talk about this - and you will - be kind.
Note: It even has a scene where a friend try to show Tom how to act / walk like a man - this scene will remind you of the scene in La Cage ax Folles and Birdcage but it was here
first!

It´s been years since I have heard about Peter Berlin but every once in awhile i come across his two films (have never seen the short one) and when I remember hiom I remember he was so handsome, had a great body and spoke with an accent. All and all an untouchable but none the less one could wish..

Now he is back in this film about his life.I must admit before looking at the film i wondered how he had help up in looks after all we never really knew his personality and now it is 30 years later. I was excited at a new Peter Berlin film so i watched it and was very surprised at it.

I really enjoyed the look back in the 1970´s and being taken in to his world. He looks a little older and tease us with wondering about a face lift but he tells about his life back then and what happened over the years.

A great documentary to find out what has happened to Peter since we lost sight of his great looks and body. A must see !

Story of the death of the painter Jean-Baptiste. He left instructions for his burial in a city called Limoges. He noted that those people who loved him should take the train ride with his body from Paris to that city for the burial.

His life was full of students which he loved and in return loved hi, Although he was mainly interested in the male ones he still charmed the female ones too.

This sad trip is a window into his life and we are treated to the stories behind these people who made up his life. VERY fascinating idea for a film.

Ticks

Director: Tony Randel
USA 1993:

From the director who brought you Hellraiser 2 and almost as bloody. 5 teenage kids with personal problems are sent on a summer-camp deep in the California forests. A local marihuana farmer uses some chemicals to spray his crop, which in turn makes the wood-ticks (nasty blood sucking insects) grow to gigantic proportions. 5 Mins later the bodies are everywhere!
This B-movie features a very effeminate gay killer, who minces about something awful. In one scene the killer’s psycho sidekick fondles one of the teen-age boys and says: Hey, feel this! Smooth and soft. Just the way you like 'em, sir!
“Deliverance” anybody?
The special effects are almost as disgusting as that homophobic remark. Ticks will make your skin crawl.

The new movie from the man behind the smash hit "Fucking Åmål". This time he goes back to the  70' s, in a revealing look at people attracted by socialism and communal living. Essentially the story of a failed marriage and its reconciliation, this also presents us with a gay man, a lesbian and a bisexual living and loving in the commune. It's both humorous and witty, and the plot works itself out to everyone's satisfaction. No great shakes, this is a pleasing movie with attitude.

Thieves, The
(Original title: les Voleurs)

Director: Andre Téchiné
France: 1996: Lesbian relationship
With: Catherine Deneuve, Daniel Auteuil:

Now....this is one heck of a complicated movie! Ostensibly a thriller about a gang of car-thieves, this really concerns sexual and emotional relationships between a large numbers of people. So many that I had a hard time following them all. My tip - watch it at least twice! Catherine Deneuve plays Marie, a lesbian lecturer, who falls in love with a bi-sexual thief, Juliette. Juliette has another affair going with macho police-officer Alex, who is the brother of Ivan, Juliettes employer, who gets shot early on. Juliettes brother, Jimmy, loves......oh I give up! Watch it for yourself!  (Just one final thought: Do the French really sleep around like this?)

Third man out

Director: Ron Oliver
USA: 2006
With: Chad Allen

Detective/ mystery-movie made for HERE! TV in the USA.
Gay Private eye Donald Strachey investigates an attempted murder on a gay activist who likes to "out" powerful people on the Internet. It looks like a case of revenge, but turns out to be something completely different.....
"Third man out" explores everything from blackmail, to outing, to spying, to HIV, to gays in the military, to sexual abuse of minors. It's a quite clever plot, but somewhat confusing..
There are lots of very handsome actors in it, though. That should get you through the rough parts! Trouble is, I should have liked this movie more than I do...hmm..

Director: Julián Hernandez
Mexico: 2003: 83 Mins: Art movie
With: Mil Nuvens De Paz Cercam O Céu, Amor, Jamais Deixará De Ser Amor , Juan Carlos Ortuño, Juan Carlos Torres, Perla De La Rosa

After his relationship with Bruno ends, Gerardo, a young man of seventeen years, starts to roam aimlessly through the streets of the city. As he walks, he is tortured by certain images. Every male body that passes reminds him of his lover, who he can’t get out of his mind. Now that Bruno has left him, Gerardo seizes upon a letter, and even though it is not intended for him, he tries to decipher the last message from his love. The script was inspired by the poem "Persecución", by Pasolini. The film won the Teddy Bear, an award given for the best gay film, at the Berlin Film Festival in 2003.

Alternative review:
The longest title in movie-memory, (lifted from a poem by Pier Paolo Pasolini.) The film is about a young hustler who searches for his lost love in the streets and alleys of Mexico City.
He does a lot of searching! Will he find his love or simply give up? Will the audience care?

The movie is about 80 Mins long but seems much longer. It's very low-budget. You will find it either incredibly boring or artfully inspired, depending on your mindset. Try to imagine a veeery slow black & white Italian neo-realist movie with a LOT of voice-over monologue and you're nearly there.
It won the Teddy award at the Berlin film-festival for best gay feature so a lot of people like it. Some of the images are very beautiful. See for yourself.

It is the story of three people who are tying to find out how they really feel about each other. Most of the action takes place in a coffee shop. It held my attention from the beginning till the end! I knew when I saw this film that Greg Araki would go on to bigger better things and he did.

Time to Leave
(Original title.: Le Temps qui reste )

Director/ Writer: François Ozon
France: 2005, 85 min: In French with English subtitles:
With: Melvil Poupaud, Jeanne Moreau, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Daniel Duval, and Marie Rivière

This is a very dramatic French film of very high class. I was glued to the screen as I watch this film. It is about an attractive fashion photographer at the top of his career until he finds out he has a brain tumor that is not curable. His world is thrown around into a mess. As he does not want to tell people about his sickness so he start being nasty to everyone in his life including his young lover. He is so nasty to him that the lover leaves him and then he attacks his family seeming to watch to go throw the sick process alone. Along the way he meets a waitress and her husband who make him a proposition he must consider. Very good but sad film  - a MUST see! The Director François Ozon has outdone all his previous films.

If you like Jeanne Moreau she is in this film at the Grandmother.

Tipping the velvet

Director: Geoffrey Sax
UK: 2002: Gay central characters
With: Keely Hawes, Rachael Stirling

Expensive-looking TV-drama-series produced by BBC. It's a raunchy, sexy lesbian tale about an oyster girl and a music hall singer finding love under very difficult circumstances

(London ca 1890, the age of Oscar Wilde).

There’s a lot happening. The oyster girl works the streets disguised as a boy prostitute and is even introduced into a butch dyke society where leather dildos is the order of the day (you had to wait until the 1920’s for the rubber kind). It’s all very “sophisticated”.
The actors look good. Keely Hawes is gorgeous. Hey, I almost want to go lesbian! What a Botticelli angel she is. Yummy. (Just joking, John!!!)
I sat up for three Fridays watching this series, and it was sooo worth it. A near masterpiece based on a popular novel by Sarah Waters.

To Forget Venice

Director: Franco Brusati
Italy: 1979: 90 Mins: two gay male and two lesbian main characters:
With: Erland Josephson, Mariangela Melato and others:

Ugh this seems like a long film and I had to try and watch it two times before I finally came to the end. I normally like all Gay & Lesbian pictures but this is the story of two couples who come together at a country estate and from the moment they arrive they talk and talk and talk about getting older and dying. The title should be called "To Forget going to Venice we can kill you off here by talking you to death!"
Note: sorry i just do not like this film but of course you should judge for yourselves if you want to see it.

Too Outrageous!

Director; Richard Benner
Canada: 1987: 100 Mins : Gay /Drag
With: Craig Russel:

Well, Outrageous! was simple a wonder film (see my review) and this is the sequel so all that they say about sequels is true. The whole story was told in the Outrageous! and there was not much left for Too Outrageous! except, of course, the good drag numbers. Robin´s relationship with Liza (who is schizophrenic) just goes on and on and on and is really nowhere!

Note: This is worth a see if you are a fan of Craig Russel. It is rarely seen on TV or in the Video rental story so if you do want to see it you will have to search for it.

Torch Song Trilogy

USA, 1988: Gay film
With: Harvey Fierstein, Anne Bancroft as his mother, Matthew Broderick and Brian Kerwin:

I laughed - I cried and to say the least I loved this film. Which is basically the search of a gay man (who works as in drag for a living) for true love and happiness. He certainly finds true love but happiness is a long way off. Then it all comes together with a son and a lover and life is beautiful except for the mother who is a BITCH and wonderfully played by Anne Bancroft. Harvey Fierstein is simply the BEST in this roll and this is a GREAT film!!! If you have been on the moon and missed it - rent it or see it TODAY!!! The musical drag numbers are great too!
Note: my good friend Tommy just reminded me that I forgot to gay anything about Matthew and Brian.
So I can say that Matthew Gave the performance of his career playing young, sexy, totally charming and made me believe he loved Harvey - which is very good acting!
- as for Brian he is my all time Blond hunk lover type  but only after he came back for the second time! I must say each and every one gave the performance of their lives to make this one of the best all time gay films ever!

What Leonardo DiCaprio as a gay poet yep! - in this one he plays the famous Gay poet Arthur Rimbaud and to make matters more fun- it is about his relationship with the bisexual Paul Verlaine (played by David Thewlis): There is a scene where Leonardo as Arthus gets up on the roof in the Moon-light and is totally naked – in the copy I rented there was not Much to see – even though I put it on paused 150 times :-)

Too Cool for Christmas
(AKA: A Very Cool Christmas)

Director: Sam Irvin
USA: 2004 made for TV: 90 mins:
With: George Hamilton, Brooke Nevin Brooke Nevin, Donna Mills, and Adrienne Carter

In this made for TV film a young girl who is a rich snob decides to do something for another person rather than always for herself. She take a mall Santa Claus and decided to remake him so that he loses his fat bearded self and becomes a handsome tanned slim George Hamilton and that is exactly why this film is listed here as his makeover takes them to a beauty salon which is run by a Latino queen and he serves up some of the better moments of this film so have a look and see who is the real star of this rather strange plotted movie!

Note: OK OK there are some bad scenes such as when Santa is getting his make over – his beard is being shaved and you see the false netting.

It is the USA remake and if you saw the original you will see that the Americans have a different way of looking at things. It does no mean the remake is bad, because it is NOT!  and is a fun movie in its own league but it is not as good as The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. I enjoyed the performances of the three drag queens which were very good. I laughed a lot and enjoyed the drags turning the little town into a straight drag version of them.
Note: one can like coffee and also tea so if you get the chance see this version and the Australian original version also.

He leads a happy life with his boyfriend Giles (Kristen Holden-Reid) and his imaginary friend, Cary Grant (Kyle MacLachlan), but matters start getting complicated when his mother pressures him to find a Muslim wife. Alim accepts her proposal and pretends to be courting Giles’ sister, until Nuru finally discovers that her son is gay and returns to Canada enraged. Alim goes after his mother, but not even Cary Grant can prevent the family crisis. A very funny movie with a great soundtrack, it seems like an Indian Wedding Banquet version.

trans.jpg
Trans

Director: Julian Goldberger
USA: 1998: 80 Mins:
With: Ryan Daugherty, Jon Daugherty and Edge

This "made on a shoe string” film is about a young fifteen-year old called Ryan Kazinski (played by Jon Daugherty)who is quite nice to look at - although a little young and there are enough moments where we see him with his shirt off and looking very good - the director seems to linger over him, which is quite erotic. So now to the story line Ryan is in a Florida jail at fifteen for a wrongdoing. One day while working on the chain gang - he and some other prisoners escape and he gets away.

He wants to find his mother, which he has not seen in years. He goes to a train station and has very little money. He goes to the sales guy and tries to hustle him into giving him a ticket by holding his hand. So there is a small gay angle to this small but good film.

Note: Trans was an official selection at both the Toronto and Sundance Film Festivals.

Transamerica

Directror: Duncan Tucker
USA: 2005: 103 Mins:
With: Felicity Huffman, Kevin Zegers, Fionnula Flanagan, Elizabeth Peña, Graham Greene

Transamerica is a strong great movie with Felicity Huffman Lynette from Desperate Housewives, she is brilliant as a transsexual in that film.
Bree (Huffman)  is a proud transsexual from Los Angeles. She saves as much money as she can in order to have the operation that will transform her definitively into a woman. One day, Bree receives a phone call from Toby, a young inmate in a New York jail looking for his father. Bree realises that Toby must be the result of one of her past relationships from when she was still a man. So she flies to New York and gets him out of jail. At first Toby thinks that Bree must be some kind of Christian missionary trying to convert him. Bree plays along but convinces him to accompany her to Los Angeles.
Shown at the 2005 Berlin Film Festival in the Panorama section.

Novak as Elvire, Thibaut Corrion as Marlène, Marcel Dossogne as Professeur Ancelin, Micheline Presle as Violette Ancelin:

Girod's brought you "le trio infernal". And now in his new film Transfixed he films the story of BO who is a transsexual in Brussels and in order to earn money works as a prostitute. Bo looks and acts like a woman and “she falls” for a good looking guy who only uses her for sex and treats her badly. There are a string of Transsexual murders and BO is suspected and attempts to clear herself. Does “she” succeed – well you will have to see the film to find out in this who done it!
There great shots of life and city from Brussels.

Director: François Ozon
France / Japan: 1999

This is based on the R.W. Fassbinder play and then filmed in 1999 by François Ozon.
I just finished watching this film and was surprised that François Ozon did the filming in the style of the time it was written.
It is a strange story and come to life in the cinema more as a play being filmed.
The business man Léopold mets and enters into a relationship with Frischling Franz. The young man is in a relationship with a girl for the past 3 years but one word from Léopold  (ops I mean one touch) and they start a relationship which slowly but surely turns one string of bitching / sex sessions between business trips. If you like Fassbinder you will like this film all the others will find it a bit dated but certainly worth a look….

As Thomas realizes that he start liking having a child at home, his lover Hervé discovers that he does not like it. So poor Thomas who wants to do the right thing is getting legal trouble and lover trouble.
A very good film with good performances but that is not alone what makes it a really good film, what makes it a really
Note: Good about this film is that it shows who the legal system discriminates against homosexuals who want to be parents and in turn they must fight the courts to keep the child .... See the film you will be amazed at what obstacles are placed in Thomas way to be a gay parent... and also to see how it turns out....

Twinkle
(Original title: Kira Kira Hikaru)

Director: George Matusoka
Japan: 1992: 103 Mins: Gay;

This is one of those Asian films which is hard to understand as the social background is so different from mine but anyway it is the story of Mutsuki, who is a handsome gay doctor who is not out of the closet, so to please his parents he decides to marry Shoko who is a translator and has a drinking problem. The relationship starts to fall apart almost from the beginning as all relationships based on lies usually do. Worth seeing to see what happens to them!

Portugal : 2005: 101 mins: in Portuguese with English subtitles:
With: João Carreira as Pedro, Carloto Cotta as Alberto, Ana Cristina De Oliveira as Odete, Nuno Gil as Rui, Teresa Madruga as Teresa:

This film is about Rui. His lover Pedro was killed in a car accident and he goes into a depression. This depression leads to drinking and going to saunas / crusing for nameless sexual encounters.
All this is too much for him and he decides suicide is what will cure the pain he is feeling at his loss.  But this is not the only story in the film Odete is a woman who works in a large store. She is determined to have a baby but her boyfriend does not want a baby with her. In her desperation she makes herself believe that she is pregnant and unbelievingly the father is supposed to be Pedro who was gay and is now dead. She starts dressing as Pedro as she starts to go crazy. How this effects Rui in his sad times and what happens to them you will have to see the film to find out. Definitely a different film if there ever was one.

Twilight of the Golds, The

Director: Ross Marks
USA: 1997: Made for TV
With: Jennifer Beals as Suzanne Stein, Brendan Fraser, Faye Dunaway and others:

This is the story of a well adjusted gay man called David. In this film there is a new genetic test for telling if a child is going to be gay or not. David´s sister becomes pregnant and must decide if they will do the test and if they would want the child if it is going to be gay. Having David as a brother only makes matters more complicated. See the film and see what the decision is! There are two stereotype gays in the film but there are two non stereotypes also so the audience can see that gays different - some queens - some not!
