Object of My Affection, The
USA: 1998: Gay
With (Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston):

This is the story of George a teacher who is gay. He has just had a break-up with his lover and needs a place to stay. He ends temporary at Nina´s apartment and then ends up staying. Nina has a boyfriend but when she gets pregnant she soon realizes that he is not the right one for her or her future baby She decides that George is the right one and soon falls in love with him even though he is gay.  The two try to work out a relationship but George soon learns that he is not cut-out to be in that relationship and know that he could be a good father but not her lover.  Phillip

Note: I watched this film twice in a few days as the first impression was that I did not like the part about the girl falling in love with the gay and the gay trying to fall in love with the girl but in the second viewing I realized this part of the story takes only only 15 minutes but that the rest of the film is a must see ! Watch the film and judge for yourself ! The actors in this film give excellent performances.

Oh ! My Three Guys
Director: Chiu Sung Kee
Hong Kong: 1994: 96 Minutes.: Gay
With: Kat Man Fai as Kau Wong, Tse Wah as Fa Lau and Ching Wan as Hoi:

This is one of the more progressive Hong Kong films and traces the lives of three gay men. The three have been friends since they were boy and now share an apartment. The three are quite different. Hoi is into picking up men and then dropping them. Fa is having a depression as he has just broken up with his lover. Kau is a flaming queen and nicknames Miss Kau. All seems perfect for a really good script till it takes a change for the worse. One becomes a heterosexual (how that works I do not know !). One finds out he is HIV Positive and does something terrible. Only the third friend comes out OK. A little depressing but with this much gay content a must see. Phillip

Note: Films from Hong Kong are really well done and tackle gayness very well but they still have a way to go as they seem to be locked in the old Hollywood style of killing off gays or making them turn straight when the "right" woman comes along. Too bad as this film had everything to make it a really good gay film.

I have not yet had the chance to see this film but I have read that the plot goes like this: It is the story to two twin brothers (who star and direct this film)  who live in Germany. Due to their social status and the economic conditions within German and Europe they become Skin-heads.
One of the twins leads the other one, who discovers that he is gay. The twins have problems with each other when the dominant one discovers that his twin is gay and hanging around with a guy who is NOT homosexual but IS a leftist. Phillip

Director: Takehiro Nakajima
Japan: 1992: 120 Minutes.: Gay / Bisexual
With  Atsushi Fukazawa as Tamio, Takehiro Murata as Goh, Kyozo Nagatsuka as  Goh's brother, Takeo Nakahara as Tochi  and Masayuki Shionoya as Kurihara:

This is about a woman (Sayoko) who loves being with gay men. There are two special ones called Goh and his older lover Tochi. She loves them so much that she is willing for them use her apartment to have sex (as they can't afford hotels). All goes well until Tochi´s wife gets upset and says she will tell Tochi´s co-workers that he is gay. She wins out and Tochi leaves Goh. Goh in turn meets a new man called Kurihara but is he gay ? see the film to find out. Phillip
Note: In the film the two lovers have lots of friends who are drag queens and there are scenes in bars with drag shows. Also this film has some hot sex scenes so I wouldn't show this film to your parents (unless - of course- they are gay too !) Also the title is the slang word for women who hang around with gay men.

Once Bitten
Director: Howard Storm
USA: 1985: 97 Minutes.: Gay rumors
With Jim Carrey and Lauren Hutton:

This is the story of a young man who comes into contact with a female vampire, who he both loves and hates. When his two school friends find out about her they get him in the locker room showers and strip him to see if he has on his body the bites of the vampire. Unhappily for him they are seen in the shower and the rumor gets around the school that he and the two boys were having gay sex. You can imagine how this effects a straight boy!. There is also a drag queen that might get his/her man. Phillip
Note: This is an early Jim Carrey film before he made it to the big stardom. Not a master piece but certainly worth a look.

Once in a lifetime
(Orig. title: Livet är en schlager)
Director: by Susanne Bier:
Sweden 2000:
With: Bjørn Kjellman, Helena Bergström and Thomas Hanzon:

If you're a fan of the ESC (Eurovision song Contest) on TV, you're either a slave to trash culture and bad pop music or.....gay (or both!) Either way, this is the story of Mona, who enters the ESC with a ballad written by a friend (actually, she stole it from him)
Will she reach the finals on national TV! Will her dream of singing live come true? You watch and find out.
Mona has a husband, 4 kids and a gay transvestite brother who calls himself Candy Darling. Candy designs loud, colorful dresses, just right for Mona to wear on TV. He also has AIDS.
The scriptwriter is Jonas Gardell, who is a near genius, but not here. He should have written in a boyfriend for Candy and dumped the AIDS subplot, which is far too serious for this film.
If you're into Swedish celebrities, you can always go star-gazing, cause there are tons of them here. That's it! Yngvar

Director: Stewart Main

The time and place  is Auckland New Zealand 1965: Jamie and Lemmy hang out, listen to love songs on the radio, joke about poofters and homos and even try to "out" one of their own teachers at school. When they see a handsome guy, they stare at him, but  can't admit that they find him attractive.  This is a strange coming-of-age film from the director who made "Desperate remedies". We really get to know Jamie and Lemmy,
who are outsiders in the
same way as the girls in Peter Jackson's "Heavenly creatures". Their theme song could be: "You and me against the world". Well, we've all been there,  haven't we? Yngvar

Director/ Writer: Robert Gaston
USA: 2005, 100 mins

Finally a gay mystery and who done it film. Basically it is a film about Manny (played by Andreau Thomas) he likes sex and gets his partners through the Internet all goes ok till his sex partners start showing up dead.

It's got all the hot buttons you guys love: sexy men who appear naked, a hot cop (who likes to bottom), a terrific mystery, romance and a completely compelling story. Then comes the hot gay cop to find the killer and his name is Hamilton (played by Amir Darvish). He and Manny have hot sex together but when Hamilton wants a rematch Manny does not as he likes them once and only once. In order to find and arrest the murder Hamilton pretends to be Manny lover. To find out who is doing the killing, will they catch him and will Manny and Hamilton have sex again see this film!

(Just in case you like naked men there are some in this film :- ))

I have read that this is a low budget film but with this good who done it story line one does not notice. Phillip

Opposite of Sex, The
USA, 1998 120 Minutes. Gay / Bisexual
Directed by Don Roos
With:  Christina Ricci, Martin Donovan, Lisa Kudrow, Lyle Lovett, Johnny Galecki, William Lee Scott:

I never in my life thought that I would sit through a film which had SO much negative
talk about gays but I did and in the end I liked the film – surprise !!!
This is the story of a teen-ager girl who has no morals and will use everyone she comes into contact with. She ends up at the home of her gay half brother and she sets out to destroy all that he has and that includes his lover. During the film she spits out every negative cliché about gays but there is so many positive things and people around her that any person realizes that this is just her opinion and not the worlds.  Phillip

This is a 3 part mini-series made for BBC-TV and is the story of Jess who is a young Lesbian and in the process of her coming out but standing in the way is her mother who is a “domineering Evangelist”.  The filming of the book by the same name is well done and I guess it is due to the fact that Jeanette Winterson not only wrote the book “Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit” but the screen story also.  Phillip

Director: John Erman
USA: 1991: 100 Minutes.: made for TV: Gay /  Aids
With: Julie Andrews as Audrey Grant, Ann-Margret as Luanne Barnes Hugh Grant as James, Zeljko Ivanek as Donald, Elizabeth Austin as Sally, Hal England as Charles, Loyda Ramos as Patient's Wife Lisa, Blake Richards as Female Bar Patron, Tony Roberts as Harry, Essex Smith as Trailer Park Manager, Annabelle Weenick as Nurse, Frank Whiteman as George and George Whiteman as Male Bar Patron:

James and Donald are lovers. Donald is sick and dying from Aids. James has a good relationship with his mother Audrey Grant (played by Julie Andrews) whereas Donald and his mother Luanne Barnes (played by Ann-Margret) have not talked for years. James goes to his mother and asks her to go to Fayetteville Arkansas to tell Donalds mother that her son Donald is dying. When they meet the two women couldn't be more different or come from different backgrounds. One is a successful business woman and the other is of the working class and just as in real life the educated business woman is able to accept her son being gay where as the working class mother just can not accept it. The meeting of the two woman is great cinema and the performances are top and this in a mode for television production - this is a first class production. How it all works out I won't tell you so see the movie - but one interesting thing to note is that Hugh Grant plays the gay James !  Phillip

USA 2004
Director: Pete Jones
With: Pete Jones, Nathan Fillion

Riley is an Irish Catholic man, with 3 brothers and a sister. He is also gay, closeted to his family. He thinks they won't love him anymore if he told the truth. Only his sister knows, and she is doing everything in her power to out him.
Now, this movie was actually quite good... Directed by the man who won the "Project greenlight" TV-series, Pete Jones has made a funny, old fashioned, well acted and scripted film. The story has constant surprises:

There is a scene where Riley is spying on a naked girl which is accompanied by a voice-over saying: "Well, I became a voyeur long before I was gay!" Michael McDonald (from MadTV) plays Riley's boyfriend, with a solid helping of mascara to underline his character's gayness.Yngvar

Director: Chris Löfveñ
(Aka Titles: 20th Century Oz)
Australia : 1976: 103 Minutes..( USA version  85 to 90 Minutes): Gay Characters
With: gay, Gino Lattore as 2nd gay,  Graham Matters as Wally/Wizard/record salesman/tram conductor/doorman/face at party, Bruce Spence as Bass player/Blondie the Surfie, Michael Carman as Drummer/Greaseball the Mechanic,  Garry Waddell as Guitarist/Killer the Bikie, Ned Kelly as Bouncer/Truckie.

This is a musical comedy take off of all the Wizard of OZ films with one difference this one has gay characters in it.
It is the story of Dorothy who is of course, 16 years old. She is a groupie and is traveling with a rock band on tour. The bus has an accident and she bangs her head. When she wakes up she is in a fantasy land and learns that she has
killed a nasty criminal and as a reward she gets a pair of red shoes from a gay clothes designer who is called the good fairy  and sets her on her way to the last concert of the Wizard (who is a androgynous rock singer). The criminals brother is following her and tries to rape her on a few occasions. To go with her on her trip to get to the concert are  “a dumb blond Surfie, Greaseball the mechanic, and Killer the Bikie”.  Phillip

Note: if this all sounds crazy and you liked the Wizard of OZ see this parody to see what ideas and fun they have come up with !
