-
- If
you are a Fan of Derek Jarman´s films - I probably won't have
to convince you
to see this film but if you are not then let me say the following about
this
film: It is basically the story of Jarman sleeping in his garden and
having
beautiful / strange dreams of gay men being lovers, making love and
also being
harassed the same way as Jesus was but by homophobia. After all is said
and
done, at the end of the film, what I understand is that Jarman wanted
peace
happiness and understanding for gays.

: USA : 91 minutes (video is 86 minutes) : Gay Comedy
- with
Kevin Coughlin, Larry Casey and Michael Greer:

- Picture
that it is the 1960´s - a time when all American men had to
serve in the
military. Two straight ffriends decide to avoid the draft by pretending
to be
gay lovers. The recruiting officer does not believe them and tells them
he is
going to keep an eye on them. In panic they decide to move into a gay
apartment
building as "lovers". What follows is that their campy
"Landlady" decided to help out the new lovers including throwing a
gay party for them. Meanwhile the situation gets funnier as the
families and
girlfriends keep dropping by.
- Note:
There are definitely the 60´s stereotypes in this film but
fun to watch
especially the gay landlady.

-
- OH
my god just when I thought I saw all the documentaries in the world

- It
is almost impossible to understand how there are Gay Republicans were
faced
with a difficult challenge in the election of 2004, when the
intolerance of the
Republican incumbent George W. Bush placed them in direct opposition to
their
party loyalty. Log Cabin, the gay Republican club which has been in
operation
since 1977, was put under the spotlight during the days leading up to
the
election, as Bush's well-established position on the issue of gay
marriage
denies them their civil rights. Faced with a difficult decision between
their
politics and their personal lives, various members of the community
took
diverging paths in their attempts to follow what they thought was
right. This
documentary follows a group of Log Cabin members as they attempt to
parse their
own path on the way to "Decision 2004," in a process by turns moving,
humorous, and politically prescient.

- This
is a Sci-Fi comedys short with one of the worst names for a movie I
have even
seen. They come
from a future universe
and they are black and gay. (The blacks all use the
“N” word about each other.
The voice track seems to be out of sync but it has been filmed that
way. They
know nothing about the female race and come from a planet with only
men. . They
land on earth and they
get shocked when
they have close encounters with women The film has a real feeling of a
serious
Sci-Fi film although it is not. To add to the special effects they did
most of
the film in Black & White but the ending scenes are in color.
Oh almost
forgot no matter which country they travel to they simply zap women to
get rid
of them and leave only men behind. I guess you will have to see the
film to see
what it is like and if you will enjoy it. Note: I suspect that this
film will
have lots of problems due to the title..

- George
Michael : a different story
-
- UK:
2005
- Directed
by Southan Morris
- With:
George Michael, Andrew Ridgley, Elton John, Simon Cowell
-
- Well-made
documentary about the famous gay singer, with some great surprises
thrown into
the mix. We get to know some interesting bits about his childhood and
early
Wham years, (including a tete-a-tete with Andrew Ridgley, and HELLO!
has THAT
guy aged well!! Yummy...) A tongue-in-cheek Japanese promo for the band
is
hilarious!
- The
mega-success of Michael?s first solo-album FAITH is prodigiously
covered, (lots
and lots of MTV video clips) and it becomes clear how the singer later
tried
hard to live down the image of that album.
- The
tragedy of his AIDS-stricken lover Anselmo is retold in heartbreaking
fashion,
also the loss of his mother to cancer. The struggle to hide his
sexuality from
the press is told from different viewpoints, leading up to his
?shocking ?
arrest in a public toilet in 1997.
- All
in all, this is a very personal movie, not always kind to the subject
himself.
Simon Cowell, Noel Gallagher, Boy George and Elton the Man throw in
some really
bitchy remarks about him! (Simon Cowell is downright spiteful..)
- Still,
George Michael is portrayed as a likeab le, if rather naive and
self-conscious
man. About the LA public toilet arrest he says:
- Well,
I would say it´s not dysfunctional to cruise as a gay man ,
but cruising as
George Michael is sliiiiiightly dysfunctional!!? Bottoms up, George.
- You?ll
be very entertained by this film, even if you don?t buy it as the whole
truth
and nothing but the truth!

- Get

-
- USA:
1995
- Directed
by Spike Lee
- Gay
central characters
-
- The
"Million men march" in Washington was a major event in recent
afro-American history.
- In
this unusual movie we follow a dozen men going by bus from California
to
Washington to join the march. Each one of them represents some aspect
of being
black, male and living in the US. Two of the guys are gay, they have
recently
split up after being a couple for some years. I wasn't expecting much
from
this, but I was wrong. It's a fascinating Spike Lee experiment with
great,
atmospheric photography and a thoughtful script. Lee treats his
characters with
the usual aplomb, and the gays come off as quite sympathetic.

Affair
- Director:
Matt Cimber
- USA
: 1974 : 98 Mins : lesbian main characters
- With:
Marta Kristen as Julie and Anne Seymour as Agnes Wilson:
-
- This
is basically a 1974 film which shows lesbians in a very positive light
even
thought they do not say the word. It is the story of Jessica who is an
actress
who moves to LA to find her fame and fortune. She stays with her best
friend
from High School. Her name is Julie and she work as a high class
prostitute.
Even though the house is quite large they end up sharing the same bed.
There is
a scene when a Lesbian talent agent tries to seduce her without luck.
Later on
in the film Jessica says : I am hungry but I do not know what I want
and then
Jessica and Jule make love. Afterwards Jessica is shocked and repulsed.
They
finally discuss what has happened (still no mention of the Lesbian
word) and
acknowledge that there is a physical attraction and possibly love but
they also
say that there will be a rough time ahead.
-
- Note:
you will hear dialog like:
- Julie
saying about the Lesbian talent agent: She is a snotty bitchy cunt
Jessica
replies: I knew a woman like her in New York City, she smoked cigars
and had
hands like a teamster (a rough man).

-

- Germany,
Year Zero
- Italy
: 1947 : 75 Mins. Drama : Pederast/Gay
- Director:
Roberto Rossellini
-
- I
was not sure if I should include this film in the reviews but even
though I do
not like the subject matter it is a stepping stone in our history in
films. So
I have decided to include it. Basically it is the story which shows
that
Germany is destroyed and it is just after the war ( the settings are
real and
the city is just as it was right after the war) It is the story of
Edmund who
is a young boy of 12. He lives in a destroyed apartment shared with
many other
people. Edmund has to go around searching the city to find food, money
and
coal. He runs into his old school teacher Mr. Ennig who was a Nazi
during the
war. The man starts to feel and to touch the boy all over. He then
brings him
to his apartment which he shares with another man. He puts Edmund on
his lap
and plays with the boys back and neck. The other man calls Edmund sweet
! and
at this point you know what they are up to. The two men are Nazi's who
now sell
records of Hitler's speeches to the Americans soldiers. They learn from
Edmund
that his father is sick and convince him that it is for the better if
his
father dies. The boy believes them and poisons his father. Edmund then
tells
Mr. Ennig, who says he is shocked and send the boy away. So all alone
the boy
jumps to his death.
-
- Note:
I have a real problem with this film as so many homosexuals lost their
lives by
the Nazi hands and yet one of the early pictures after the war again
shows that
homosexuals are strange plus pederasts and on top of that Nazi's. For
these
reasons this film leaves a nasty taste in my mouth but I guess showing
us in
earlier films even a negative light was a beginning for us to finally
get to
the image we have now.

- Pam

Pam is great, the film is not. The entire boring spectacle takes place
on the
surface of Mars, where buried ghosts turn humans into ugly vampires.
-
- The
planet is ruled by a matriarchy, which is a nice idea for a
science-fiction
movie. Unfortunately, this means the guys in it don’t
register at all. Pity,
because Jason Statham is my kind of guy, in a Bruce Willis kind of way.

- Girl
Play
- Director:
Lee Friedlander
- USA:
2004: 80 mins: Lesbian, Comedy
- With:
Lacie Harmon, Robin Greenspan, Dom Deluise, Mink Stole:
-
- Girl
Play is based on a theatre piece written by the lead actresses Harmon
&
Greenspan, who are also a couple in real-life. The story begins with
the
women’s first meeting at an audition in L.A. They are chosen
as the play’s
leads, but there is one catch: they must act as lovers.
-
- The
director (amusingly played by Dom Deluise) demands that they invest
their time
in some “method acting”, which does not impress
their existing partners.
-
- Apart
from a few flashbacks that allow the women to convey their
“coming out
experiences” – the movies rolls along to its likely
conclusion….this is a
romantic comedy after all. Girl Play will be most enjoyed by those who
appreciate the genre.

- Glen
or Glenda
- (AKA
:He or She)
- (AKA
:I Changed My Sex)
- (AKA
:I Led 2 Lives)
- (AKA
:Transvestite, The)
- Director:
Edward D. Wood Jr.
- USA
: 1953 68 Mins : Filmed in B/W : Drama sex-change transsexual
transvestitism
- With:
Bela Lugosi as Scientist, Lyle Talbot as Inspector, Timothy Farrell as
Psychiatrist, Dolores Fuller as Barbara, Edward D. Wood Jr., Daniel
Davis as
Glen/Glenda, Tommy' Haynes as Alan/Ann, Charles Crafts as Johnny, Mr.
Walter as
Patrick/Patricia and Evelyn Wood as Sheila/Glen's Sister (although she
was not
credited for the part):
-
- This
one will take some explaining : It starts off with the suicide of a
known
transvestite (suicide was the only way to be accepted as a woman for
this poor
person). The police inspector is looking for clues as to why this
happened.
They seek help from a Psychiatrist who explains that Glen is to be to a
girl
called Barbara, but before that happens he must find a way to tell her
of his
desire to wear her angora sweater, and that he has cross dressing
needs. I told
you this would be difficult to explain - let's continue . The
Psychiatrist then
tell the police another story which is the story of Alan, who decides
become a
woman via surgery (this was based on the story of Christine Jorgensen -
which
was news at the time). These stories are supposed to make the police
more aware
of cross dressing and transvestites. Then for no know reason there is a
scientist who rambles on and on about life and death with thunder
effects from
another movie (what this has to do with the story I have never
discovered -
except the Ed Woods Jr. has a contract to use Bela Lugosi and by God he
would
use him even if he didn't fit the story- line.
-
- The
drag is terrible and the story is weak but this 1953 film took very
risky
chances to make this film and Ed Woods Jr. was often brought to court
due to this
film. - That is why the film has 5 different titles - by changing the
title
they thought the police would not know that the film was Glen or
Glenda.. We
now see this film and laugh but it was a brave try at showing people
what cross
dressing and transvestites were all about.

- Glowing
eyes
- (Original
French title: la Chatte à deux têtes)
- France:
2002
- Directed
by Jacques Nolot
- With:
Jacques Nolot and Vittoria Scognamiglio
-
- This
unconventional and daring movie takes place in a Parisian porn cinema.
The
audience are lonely, sometimes married men seeking respite from their
inner
frustrations by taking part in game of sex and secret desires.
There’s only one
location, but a lot goes on. Transvestites roam the seats, servicing
their
customers. Orgies in the toilet. A middle aged gay man philosophizes
with the
female cashier. The police does a razzia and there’s gay
bashing.If you dislike
explicit sexual content, pass on this. Nolot’s critically
acclaimed movie is
about male sexuality and contains a lot of erotically charged scenes.
The sex
is probably fake, but looks very real.

Ian McKellan and Brendan Fraser:
-
- I
loved this film which is about the last days of James Whale´s
life. You might
ask who is James Whale and I only have to answer - the director of
Frankenstein
and Frankenstein´s Bride. These two horror classics are in a
category of their
own and you only have to watch them to know that someone special made
these
films and that someone was James Whale. He was out of the closet and in
Hollywood when most people had to hid the fact that they were gay. He
"left" Hollywood and had another life but the fact that he made these
film always came back to haunt him though out the rest of his life. Now
back to
the movie which traces the last days of his life. His last days were
filled
with a new friendship between himself and a handsome lawn-boy (who was
heterosexual - much to James regret. None the less they formed a
relationship
(non sexual) and the lawn-boy was at his side till the end and gets to
hear the
whole story of James life .
-
- The
acting is excellent although I had to watch it twice as during the
first
viewing my eyes were on Brendan Fraser who is a hunk... A well filmed
Oscar
winning film about a real gay man - see it and enjoy !!!

diversion about modern Dublin city-life.
- A
story about a college professor, a newscaster and their respective
friends who
seem to fall in
- and
out of love with each other, both gay and straight. The "Goldfish
memory" in the title is referred to as lasting 3 seconds, after which
goldfish experiences everything new again. A bit like people thinking
every new
love affair will be better than the last one! It's a jolly little movie
and
Dublin, one of my favorite cities, has never looked so good. (All about
Adam,
another Dublin movie, is also recommended).

- Grande
École
- Director:
Robert Salis
- France:
2004:110 mins
- With:
Jocelyn Quivrin, Alice Taglioni, Grégori Baquet, Elodie
Navarre, Arthur Jugnot
-
- Group
of youths is admitted to one of France’s grandes
écoles where the country’s leaders
are formed and the doors to power are opened. If everything goes as
planned,
they will be the elite of the future. But things do not always turn out
as
expected in life. Their convictions are rocked by a combination of
feelings and
intrigue, and they must face themselves and the conditions for success.
All of
a sudden, they realize that the grande école is not exactly
what they were
expecting. The film is set at an elite French Business School, where
very-rich
kids learn to become tycoons. The action revolves around Paul (Gregori
Baquet),
who, in one of many parallels to Maurice, is not quite to the manor
born. As
the film begins Paul is straight and dating a woman. To his surprise,
he finds
himself emotionally and sexually drawn to his rich, powerful and
gorgeous
roommate Louis (Jocelyn Quivrin). He finds relief and eventually
romance when
Mécir, a working-class Arab young man (Salim Kechiouche)
comes on to him.
Adapted from the play Best School by Jean-Marie Besset. Participated in
the
2004 Rotterdam Film Festival. A very nice movie with plenty of high
drama, lots
of naked guys (full frontal), hot sex and a budding gay romance.
-
- Alternative
Review:
-
- Paul
prefers to live with his room mates rather than with his girlfriend,
Agnes. As
soon as he meets his new roommate, Louis-Arnault, Paul's behaviour
changes and
he feels attracted to Louis without Louis consenting to this attraction.
-
- Agnes,
on the other hand, is terribly jealous and offer Paul a deal: the first
one who
get Louis wins. If she does, Paul will quit exploring their homosexual
instincts and if he does she will leave him. In the meanwhile Paul
meets Mecir,
a young Moroccan worker who will show him what real life is.
-
- Some
of the dialogs are too deep and boring to be followed by a non-French
speaker,
but is a good movie anyway. You can't miss seeing the swimming pool's
shower
scenes (Louis is a water polo player). I could have had a happier
ending.

Craig Chester as Mark, Alexis Arquette as Bill, Carlton Wilborn as
Jeremy and
last but not least : Jackie Beat as Jo:
-
- This
film is by the director of Parting Glances so you can expect that it
will be
good but I bet you won't expect that it is quite funny. It is the story
of an
agency who is responsible for the filming of the daily series called :
Divorce
Court. Mark is a gay and a write for the series. He lost his lover one
year
before to AIDS and since then has been alone. He works well with his
co-workers
until Bill breaks up with his girlfriend and suddenly become an
attraction for
Mark. When Bill asks to go on vacation with Mark, Mark assumes that he
is in
the start of a new relationship but things go wrong and Bill ends up
with
Jeremy (who is Mark's best friend). This relationship comes out into
the open
and causes a lot of trouble. At the head of the agency is Jo who is
overweight
woman who runs the agency with a tough and sometimes gentle hand. Jo is
played
by Jackie Beat. The part is a sort of a part for Divine and we are
often
reminded of Divine in the way Jackie Beat plays the part. It is just
like a
Divine movie where they never say she/he is a transvestite but you just
know
(and see it). I liked this movie very much and the gay men are likable,
the
Transvestite is likable, the heterosexuals are likable - even if the
agency is
a bit strange. See it - you'll like it !

the seventies, freewheeling comedy-sketch movies were popular. Born out

look, if
only for the complete absence of prejudice and homophobic jokes. One of
