Cabaret

Director: Bob Fosse
USA : 1972 : 124 minutes: Musical bisexual:
With : Liza Minelli as Sally Bowles, Joel Grey as the Master of Ceremonies, Michael York as Brian Roberts, Helmut Griem as Maximilian von Heune, Fritz Wepper as Fritz Wendel and Marisa Berenson as Natalia Landauer:

This is Berlin in the 1930's and the time of anything goes. Sally Bowles is an American singer who works at the KIt-Kat club and lives in Berlin. Then along comes Brian, who is an English teacher and thinks that Berlin is the place to be something he can't in England. He meets Sally and moves into her boarding house, sharing some rooms. They are very opposites but some how match. They fall (sort of) in love, but then along comes Helmut who is rich, handsome and fun loving. He takes advantage of both of them and seduces then separately. Sally gets pregnant, and Brian offers to marry her but she decides not to have the baby and the relationship slowly ends. All the time in the back ground are glimpses Germany being taken over by the Nazis. Joel Grey is wonderful at the master of ceremonies .

Note: this story was originally filmed as " I Am a Camera" in 1955. It's different and all is implied rather than shown but still worth a look In this version you will hear the famous lines from Brian and Sally who are having a fight:
Brian: Fuck Maximilian!
Sally: I did.
Brian: So did I.

The rest of the movie they are chased and used by the police. They end up at Renato's mother house (in Italy) where Albin is treated as one of the "girls" but this time he doesn't like it.

Cage Aux Folles III, La
AKA : Cage aux Folles 3: Wedding)
Director : George Lautner
France: 1986: 87 minutes : Gay : Transvestite : Comedy : longtime gay relationship :
With : Michel Serrault  as Albin/"Zaza", Ugo Tognazzi as Renato:
Thank god they didn't make a part 4. This one is really bad and doesn't seem to go with the other two films - can it be because there is a new director ? Or can it be because the subject was good for two films and that's all. In this one you are to believe that Albin has to get married and father a son within 18 months, if he is to inherit the family fortune which he needs to save his and Renato's nightclub.
Note: Just keep your fingers crossed that they don't remake this one as even Albin can't save it. Only for hard core "La Cage Folles" fans.

Camp
Director: Todd Graff
USA: 2003: 114 mins:
You have read about camps to lose weight well this is about a camp which is for kids who want to be in Musicals / Theater. The camp produced a new work every two weeks and the kids have work hard to keep up the pace. Most of them do not fit into the norm at home but here they seem to fit. The main character is Michael who likes to dress as a woman and goes to his High School prom dress as such and get beat up by the other guy but at this camp he is fully accepted and allowed to be himself. There is also a very handsome boy called Vlad and he will do just about anything with anyone to be accepted and make the other person happy. Will Vlad make Michael also happy – see this film filled with musical numbers and problems - which have to be solved in one summer. I liked this film a lot and the range of different characters made it especially interesting but most of all I liked Michael…

With : Village People, Valerie Perrine as Samantha Simpson, Bruce Jenner as Ron White, Steve Guttenberg as Jack Morel, Paul Sand as Steve Waits and Tammy Grimes as Sydney Channing:
This film was the end for the Village People. The studios created an almost non gay group out of an almost all gay group. The fans did not stand for it -OK - OK, the end of disco also did it to them. The film is interesting to see - it could would have been better if the true story of the group had been told and not the "don't ask - don't tell" version Just in case your interested or need the information for a trivia games or want to educate your younger lover, here are the names of the Village People:

CAPTURING THE FRIEDMANS
Director: Andrew Jarecki
USA, 2003: 107 mins:

Probably this is the best documentary ever been made over pedophile case in the United States. Based on a true case in Long-Neck neighborhood in Long Island USA, Capturing The Friedmans shows us the footage of interviews, gripping true events from family handy-cam movies, documents and emotional story about a wonderful and educated family who has been torned apart by accusations of child molestation. Arnold is a father of three children. He is a computer teacher and a pedophile. He was accused of having tons of child pornographic magazines that he ordered from Europe, but most of all: he was suspected of doing sexual molestation towards his students during the lesson (mostly young boys), and committing orgies in his class room together with one of his sons. Both were sentenced to prison, but the question remains the same: Did Arnold Friedmans and his son abuse these childrens, as no enough evidence have been founded except testimonies of the students which are contradictive to each other? This is a must see documentary, because it is non-judgemental, and considered by a lot of people to be a very controversial movie and events that has really happened!

Carandiru

Producer & Director: Hector Babenco
Brazil: 2003/2004: 148 mins: (Language: Portuguese)
With: Luis Stiewertos Vasconcelos, Milhem Cortaz, Ivan de Almeida, Ailton Graca, Maria Luisa Mendonca, Aida Leiner, Gero Camilo, Rodrigo Santoro:
This film was up for Best Foreign Picture at the Academy Awards of 2004 and did not receive it but that does not mean that it is not a very difficult search for answers to what happened at a prision for men in San Paolo Brazil. The over filling of dangerous criminals led to a killing of 111 inmates and finally the destroying of the prision.
This is the horrible story of the prision with sickness and dangerous criminals but also has a story line about  transexuals who have sex with the other prisioners including gay men plus there is a "marriage" between a transexual and another prisioner.

Note:  The story is  based on the book “Estacao Carandiru”  by Dr. Drauzio Varella.

Carrington
Director : Christopher Hampton
UK : 1995: 120 - 123 minutes : Gay : Biographical Drama :
With : Emma Thompson as Dora Carrington, Jonathan Pryce as Lytton Strachey, Steven Waddington as Ralph Partridge:
Dora Carrington was a British painter who was very shy and existed only within the so-called Bloomsbury Group of writers and painters. This is set in the period of World War I England when she meets homosexual Lytton Strachey who is 15 years older, wears a beard and doesn't seem to be the right match for her. But as we know, things are not always what you think they will be and as it turned out they had a 17 year platonic relationship which in fact lasted longer than all his affairs -mostly with heterosexual men and her relationship with Ralph Partridge. This film shows a relationship which is unique and goes against all odds.

The movie is a kind of a portrait of Cazuza, a very famous brazilian singer who died of AIDS in 1990 Rio De Janeiro, 11 of June of 1980, a very young guy sings a song in English. It could be only plus one among innumerable aspiring to the success however Cazuza became in one of the most important idols of Brazil when the youth of Rio de janeiro Love to live "a vida louca" (the wild life).

The diagnosis of that he was carrying of the virus HIV was received by the young artist with desperation, followed of the search of new forms of treatment for an illness that at the time represented a death sentence, and it was exactly under this conviction that Cazuza gave tests of an courage without precedents in the country: he displayed the illness and his physical deterioration was presented in public in amazing shows, he did not hide the pleasures that remained and his feelings.
He did not respect orders neither recommendations, and his life was a perfect consequence of one of preferred lines: ''i ''prefer to live 10 years in a thousand kilometers than a thousand years in 10''..

This is our history as seen in the movies. It should be seen as it has been a long struggle to finally get movies who show us in the way we really are in all our diversity and not as, strange effeminate people who live in the dark waiting to seduce people, wear woman's clothes all the time and kill ourselves as we were supposed to do. As you view the older films you will see we have moved light years ahead. ___________________________________________________________________________________________

Chachi 420

Director: Kamal Hassan
India
: 1998 : 159 mins :

With: Kamal Hassan as Jaiprakash Paswan/Laxmi Godbhole; Tabu as Janki Paswan; Johnny Walker as Joseph; Om Puri as Banwarilal Pandey; Amrish Puri as Durgaprasad Bhardwaj; Paresh Rawal as Hariharan 'Haribhai'; Ayesha Jhulka as Ratna

The English meaning of Chachi is Aunty and '420' is a number used in India to indicate that someone is a dubious character.

This movie is inspired by the Hollywood film Mrs Doubtfire, but it's in true Indian style with a Bollywood flavour.  The film starts with a typical Bollywood story that a poor dance choreographer Jayaprakash Paswan (Kamal Haasan) falls in love with Janki (Tabu), who is the only daughter of millionaire Durgaprasad (Amrish Puri).  Even though Durgaprasad was not in favour of their marriage, they got married against his wishes.  After a few years they started to have marital problems due to their differing backgrounds.  They eventually got divorced and Janki is given custody of their daughter Bharati.  After losing visiting rights to Bharati, Jayaprakash decides to take the job of baby sitting at Durgaprasad's home in order to see his daughter.  So using the help of his friend, movie make-up man Joseph (Johnny Walker) who transforms him into a woman, Mrs Lakshmi Godbole, Mrs Godbole wins everybody's heart.  Durgaprasad even wishes to marry Mrs Godbole.  Jayaprakash's landlord Haribhai (Paresh Rawal) also wishes to marry Mrs Godbole and it creates a lot of confusion and fun.  Eventually Janki realises her mistake and goes back to Jayaprakash who she really loves.

Very good performances by main actors and a lot of laughs – that's the main attraction of this movie.

Changing Times
A.K.A.: Les Temps qui changent
Director: André Téchiné
France: 2004, 100 mins:in French with English subtitles
With: Catherine Deneuve, Gérard Depardieu, Gilbert Melki, Malik Zidi:
This French film is basically about two lovers who meet 30 later with one of them hoping to make the relationship work this time.
The reason this film is listed here (other than the great performances by Catherine Deneuve and Gérard Depardieu) is that Sami (played by Malik Zidi) is the bisexual son who has a girlfriend and a young son but to top that off he has a Moroccan boyfriend called Bilal. When he and his family are about to leave he buys Bilal a ticket so he can come to Paris. If you keep your eyes open and look closely there is a frontal nude scene between the two men.
Note: There are so few films about bisexual people that I am always happy to review the films when they DO come out. So have a peek at this really good film. ___________________________________________________________________________________________

With: Ben Affleck, Joey Lauren Adams, Jason Lee
Affleck plays a cartoonist who falls in love with a girl he meets in a cafe. Turns out she's not also a fellow cartoonist, but a lesbian too! What will he do about it? What CAN he do about it?
Ben also has a very close male friend who probably loves him without knowing it.The third movie Smith wrote with a New Jersey background and it's a semi-classic.The dilemma of loving someone who can't love you back is treated in an adult way and not just as an excuse for cheap laughs. Watch out for the solution Ben comes up with for keeping all three of them together! Great scenes from a gay club and real, intimate performances all the way. Watch this!

I watch this film a few weeks ago and I loved the main guy in the film. He was nice to look at but that was not enough to make this film a good film. I watch it till the end and nothing really happens in the film. It is about a guy who since childhood picks pockets and let men have sex with him for money. He then meet a strange woman who helps him out after one of the guys he steals from beats him up. He sort of falls in loves with her but no sex!.. She meet a guy who moves in with them as the woman's lover. yep you guessed the two men have sex... and the rest of the time they just live there bland disco lives. Christopher and Gordy
Directors: Tom Petter Hansen and Frank Mosvold:
Norway 2004: Animated short 4 min. / English dialogue:

This short is made in the "South Park" cut and paste animated style, and made the whole audience laugh out loud at the Oslo Queer-film festival! The story about Chris and Gordy is a satire on the life of George Bush, including his earlier rowdy days and his conversion to fundamentalist Christian views. However, the ending takes everyone by surprise!

Chronically Unfeasible
(Original title: CRONICAMENTE INVIÁVEL)
Director:: Sergio Bianchi
Brazil: 1999: Gay Main Character
Six different characters are discussing the difficulties involved in surviving, both mentally and physically, in the chaotic Brazilian society. These situations revolve around a restaurant in São Paulo, owned by Luis (Cecil Thiré). He is a refined, good-mannered gay man in his fifties who likes to have sex with his waiters. There is a scene where two of them go to a gay steam house where there is a happening called the "Best Butt Award " , it´s an explicit scene with a lot of of nudity. Alfredo (Umberto Magnani) is a writer engaged in a strange journey around the country and attempts to understand, through a bitter view of reality, the problems of social oppression and domination. Adam (Dan Stulbach) - just arriving from the southern state of Paraná, is the new waiter in Luis' restaurant and stands out among the other employees because of his European ancestry. Maria Alice (Betty Goffman) comes from Rio de Janeiro's upper middle-class and is always trying to keep a minimum amount of humanity when dealing with people from the lower classes. She is married to Stiewertos (Daniel Dantas), a man who has a pragmatic view of life and believes in rationality as a way of taking personal advantage of the country's social instability. Amanda (Dira Paes), the restaurant's manager, is a captivating woman with an obscure past.

Chutney Popcorn
Director: Nisha Ganatra
USA: 90 minutes: Lebian main characters:
With: Nisha Ganatra, Jill Hennessy, Nick Chinlund, Madhur Jaffrey, Sakina Jaffrey, Cara Buono and Ajay Naidu
Chutney Popcorn is an off beat comedy about a lesbian couple and a heterosexual couple. Two of the women are sisters and Sarita (straight) finds out she can not have children. Her sister is lesbian and can have a child. The film moves on to her decision to have a child for her sister and brother-in-law but first she has to convince her girlfriend that this is the right thing to do. Also very interesting is the way the Indian family value have mixed with the New York City values to create this multi-culture film.

Citizen Cohn
Director : Frank Pierson
USA : 1992 : TV : Action Drama aids communism gay mccarthyism :
With : James Woods as Roy Marcus Cohn, Pat Hingle as Hoover and Joe Don Baker as Senator Joseph McCarthy:
This is a very hard film to watch. It is a film about a gay person who somehow manages to destroy other gay people without a bit of remorse, along with many other people. Roy Cohn only wants to get ahead in his career by attaching himself to Wisconsin Senator Joseph McCarthy, as his Chief Counsel in the late 1950's - the time when America was afraid of the Communists and seemed to see everyone different as a Communist. Through this horrible man, many people suffered but in the end he died of AIDS - alone and old - in a New York hospital. This is a good "made for TV" film which deals with America's past but is still horrible to see how a person can sell himself to "the" devil not never care for other lives - gay or straight - that he destroyed.

This is a 2007 made for English TV film and a very interesting film.. I have just finished watching it and wanted to let you know about it.
There are so many gay men in this story with so much happening to them it is almost impossible to write this review but I will try ( if you check out the list of actors in the film you will see what I mean):
If it had been shown as a weekly soap I can honestly tell you I would have turned in each week for see what was happening but I was spared that and luckily It was shown in one go – good decision !
On the bad side was a guy who picks up a trick and then beats him to a bloody pulp – this part i really disliked although i know it does happen in real life ...Plus a second rough sex scene in a toilette and two thugs who want to beat up the waiter. These story lines are not my style or taste but the director and writer seem to want to show the full spectrum of gay life Anyway i just fast forwarded these to get over the scenes fast !unless you like blood violent story lines.
I remember also a film called Cruising which had one guy killing a lot of gay men. I thought we were over that but i guess not.
There is a gay marriage (and a cruise on a waiter from one of the grooms!!!) There is also the feeling that the writer wants to say that ALL of us cruise for sex in strange places and violence is what we get for it.
I think the violence side should have been played down and more of the positive side of the story should have been shown but that is my thoughts and you will just have to see the film to decide for yourself !

Clay Farmers
Director: A.P. Gonzalez
Writer: Michael Moore
USA: 1988: 60 mins:
With: Nicholas Rempel as Mike and Todd Fraser as Dan:
This film had all the ingredients to be a really good film. The young guys are great to look at and the story that one of them is an outsider in a small community left open a lot of conflicts.
Instead the two young guys (who work on a farm in California) are very happy together but NOTHING happens between them. You have to rewrite the story line in your mind to get a real relationship out of this. Although they spend all their spare time together and swim in the nude together a relationship is not really established. Plus towards the end they seem to be planning a move away from the town – together ...
There is child abuse by a father and the oyung son reaches out to the two guys putting them in a very bad position as the father hates one of the guy (you are lead to suspect that it is because he is either an outsider or thought to be gay).
Anyway the one guy leaves and his friend is all alone and you never got to know their true story or if they were really in love.
The film is 60 mins so worth a see if only for the good looking “maybe” lovers.

Directors: Jacques Martineau and Oliver Ducastel:
France
With: Marc (Gilbert Melki), Béatrix (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi), Laura (Sabrina Seyvecou), Charly (Romain Torres), Martin (Edouard Collin), Mathieu (Jacques Bonnaffé), Didier (Jean-Marc Barr):
I watched this French film the other day and really liked it. To sum it up it is the story of a family on vacation at a family house on the French Riviera and revolved around who is gay and who is not.
The family consists of Marc and Béatrix and their two children Laura and Charly. Charly has invited his gay friend Martin to come stay with them causing his mother to try and get her son out of the closet and the relationship between the two boys into the open.
Yes Martin has the hots for Charly but does Charly have the hots for Martin.Charly goes crusing to see if he is really gay (as everyone thinks he is) and then the film takes on new twists as the guy who picks him up is an „old“ friend of his fathers...
Anyway it is a comedy filled with twists and in the end a totally new situation takes place. You want a fun film filled with funny „is he gay or not´s „ then see this film ! Only the French can make this type of comedy work ! I think the English version is now out but I saw the French version.

Cold Lands, The
(orig. title Les Terres froides)
France 2001
Directed by Sebastien Lifshitz
Djamel is a good-looking young French Arab living in Paris. His mother dies, and he goes searching for his lost father, who is a rich factory owner in Grenoble. The father rejects Djamel, and claims his mother was a whore who slept with many men. But Djamel won't give up. Will he get his father to accept him?
This isn't really a gay film, but a study of a determined young man using his sex and his charm to get what he wants. The gay stuff doesn't kick in until about 15 minutes before the end. Before that, it's kinda depressing and you sense it isn't going to get better. The ending is very interesting, even shocking, but stops in mid-air. You have to figure out the rest for yourself. Like in his first movie, Presque rien, Lifshits plays with chronology and likes to cut off his scenes in the middle. If you're happy with that, this is for you.

This is my friend Tommy´s favorite film and he made me watch it :-) and much to my surprise I liked the film a lot... It is the story of a small town in Texas and a cafe located there. In the cafe was a group of young girls (and one young guy who seems strange to the towns people and gets raped by a man in public). What binds them together is a James Dean Fan Club....Then years later they have a reunion and the young guy comes back as a woman (sex change) played wonderfully by Karen Black. The characters are wonderful and all have their lies and loves and secrets. So the James Dean Fan Club reunites and the fur flies and no one is safe from the truth... A must see film with great cast..

Common Ground
USA, 2000, 90 minutes.
Directed by Donna Deitch
Written by : Writers: Paula Vogel, Paula Vogel and Harvey Fierstein
With: Jason Priestley, Steven Weber, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Helen Shaver,
Margot Kidder, Harvey Fierstein, Beau Bridges, Ed Asner, Brian Kerwin, Dan Lauria, James LeGros, Mimi Rogers and Brittany Murphy:
I have just watch this made for Showtime film and it took my breath away. It is three separate story woven together by the fact that they take place in small town in New England in the USA. It takes place over three generations.
1st part starts out with the story of a young girl who goes into the military and ends up becoming friendly with a group of gay men (friends of Dorothy) amongst which is a solider played by Jason Priestley. He befriends her and takes her to her first gay bar. Unhappily for her, she gets her first kiss by a woman and then the bar is raided by the police. In the end she get discharged by the military and must go home to her small town with a discharge for sexual reasons. The whole town turns against her (including her Mother) and she must leave for NYC - where she can live her life as she wants.
2nd part is about a young boy and his coming out in this small town. He is on the swim team and is harassed and beaten by the other boys since he is different. He turns to his French teacher for help and understanding but the teacher is a closet case and doesn't help him much ! The story is handled with truthfulness and is a must be seen !!
3rd part is the same town but this time is in the third generation and is about the "marriage" of two men who live there. The path has been made way for them by the previous teacher who rather than leave the town has stayed on with his lover. So the town is more open to the "marriage" except a few war veterans! Harvey Fierstein plays in this one as well as having written it and does a wonderful job as the sissy and his one liners will keep you laughing !

Note: this is a wonderful film and I loved it ! by the way it is directed by the woman who gave us " Desert Hearts "

I can remember waiting for this film to come on Television with three friends one evening. We decided to go out after the film - please don't do this as this is a sad film and will make you both upset and leave you in tears. It is the story of Thomas, the cute son of a prison warden. He knows what he wants and seduces Martin, who is older and one of his father's inmates. They start a relationship and try to build a life together after Martin is released but as life is, no one will let them alone and they try in every way to stop this relationship.!

Conspiracy of Silence

Director / Writer: John Deery
UK: 90 mins:
Surprise surprise – this film is trying to expose that there are gays in the Catholic church who are priests. Well after seeing so many films about the subject this is NO surprise to me. So the film has NO shock value so this is just another film about gays and students and what they do together (which I knew already). Yes there is witch hunting, HIV and even a shower scene. The only new item is Daniel (played by Jonathan Frobes) who is a straight and gets expelled after another guy makes a pass at him. Film is very darkly lit and in some horror films this is good but I would have like to see more of what was happening on the screen.

Cowboy Forever
Director / Writer: Jean Baptiste Erreca
France:: 2006: 118 mins:
Very nicely filmed story of a young cowboy who discovers that he has feelings for the new guy guy on the ranch. He gets very close to him but does not really know what it is all about until his new friend takes him into town to meet with another friend of his. The friend turns out to be the organizer of the local gay group, where as the other guy is only looking for a woman to sleep with and not a man.
There is a party and for the first time in his life he meets gay men, lesbians and transvestites. He has a very cute gay guy who is after him and although you do not see it the next day it is hinted that he has slept with the guy although he says he does not remember, He slowly realizes what his friendship with the other guy is about and seems to accept it.
A short time later the new guy is leaving to work somewhere else but they swear to lifelong friendship but only platonic.
The film continues and shows them meeting later on and they go for a swim and i of course thought finally they would get together but the camera focus on another guy who is certainly gay and during the ending credits the cowboy and this guy are holding each other in the water and the cowboy is playing with the gays swim suit (if you know what i mean).
The film is filmed in French but the voice over is in English and when there is no voice over there are English subtitles (with dialog in Portages). Since I saw the English version I do not know what the French version is like.
A quite nice shorter film and certainly worth watch ! I hope the director makes another film but this time full length. The film is of very good quality and Andrey's a very interesting story. The shower scene is quite exotic as is the swimming scenes.
Sorry I have not found a poster picture of the film yet .

Cruising
Director: William Friedkin
USA : 1980 :
With: Al Pacino as Steve Burns, Paul Sorvino as Captain Edelson, Karen Allen as Nancy, Richard Cox as Stuart Richards, and Don Scardino as Ted Bailey:
This is about a serial killer who preys on several gay men in San Francisco's S&M and Leather districts. He slays and dismembers them. The police come up with a plan to use Steve Burns who is a hunky young police officer as a decoy to lure the serial killer on himself. He goes undercover as he fits the victims' profiles: dark hair, dark complexion, dark eyes plus uses mascara to complete the look . He is on his own doing this with only contact with the police when necessary. He must quickly learn how to dress, talk and the rules /signs of being an S&M - Leather guy. Since he is from his girlfriend Nancy this lifestyle starts to change him as he tries to find the killer. By the way, you wouldn't want to pick up the killer, he's too dangerous.
Note: This film was picketed by gays who were against showing violence against gays as they were afraid of a back lash from real/ copy killers and other who were against gay. It was also one of the first Hollywood films to "really" show the S&M - leather bars in their full glory.

eiskalte_engel_dvdcover.jpgCruel Intentions:

USA: 1998: 94 minutes:
Director: Roger Kumble.
With: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan pe, Reese Witherspoon, Selma Blair, Louise Fletcher, Joshua Jackson, Eric Mabius, Sean Patrick Thomas, Swoosie Kurtz, Christine Baranski.
Ryan pe plays Sebastian Valmont in this film. His friend is a homosexual played by Joshua Jackson (yes he is the guy out of Dawsons Creek but this time playing a gay and with blond hair).
Valmont wants to blackmail a sport figure and gets the gay friend to get him to bed so that they can take photos of the two men making love which are to be used to blackmail him.
As Valmont starts talking to the shocked guy and telling him what he wants the gay lies in bed and files his finger nails while making remarks to them both. Much fun and the film is good too… but a little nasty.

Note: Get the DVD of the film as there is more flesh to see of Ryan pe round athletic ass.Plus there are deleted / refilmed gay scenes.
