About Adam

Director: Gerard Stembridge
UK/Ireland : 2000 : 97 mins
With: Stuart Townsend, Kate Hudson, Charlotte Bradley

Adam is a charming, young man who seduces an entire family, 3 sisters and one brother. The brother is heterosexual, but fancies Adam anyway. They end up in bed, and it gets very funny after a while! This is a morality play about people wishing to break free and do whatever they please. Adam is the key to the story, trying to fulfil the dreams of everyone he meets. I kinda wish Robbie Williams had played Adam. He would have been just right for this part. Still, this movie will entertain you.

Kip is the closeted gay man living next store to the straight couple. It contains were cut down and that is why there are two versions.

OH you will hear:
Kip to Amanda: You have got me so convinced, I may even go out and become a woman.
Where as Adam replies : And you would not have far to go either.

adam & steve
Adam and Steve

Directed by Craig Chester
USA: 2005
With: Craig Chester, Malcom Gets, Parker Posey

I got to see this comedy twice in a week at the Castro Theatre in SF, (which is the best way to see gay films, believe me) Maybe that’s why I love it. Or maybe it’s because it’s really funny?

Anyway ? Adam is a gay man who hooks up with a cutie named Steve. They have met once before, (which ended in disaster, but none of them remember it!) Adam and Steve decide to play house for a while. They are both kinda prissy and insecure, have dysfunctional friends and families, so it could turn bad any minute...

Any film that makes me laugh as hard as I did at this has merit. Some of the situations are sitcom-ish, though Parker Posey as a comedian who tells fat-jokes about herself even though she’s no longer overweight is pure class. The visit to Adam’s parents is a scream, could easily have fit into one of the better Zucker/Abraham-comedies..

Time flies by, there is a western-dancing finale and suddenly it’s over. And you want to see it again. Then, tell your friends about it!

Aggressives, The

Director: Daniel Peddle
USA: 2005: 73 mins: Lesbian, Documentary
With: Kisha Batista, Marquise Balenciaga:

The Agressives is an entertaining documentary that chronicles five years in the lives of six New York lesbians. These women identify as “aggressives”, which generally means that their appearance and demeanour is butch or masculine.

The viewers are lead through the Aggressives personal and working lives – including footage of one Aggressive who landed herself in prison. We also meet model Kisha Batista, who manages to change her look from boyish to more traditionally feminine and back again as part of her fashion career.

The Aggressives will prove to be an eye-opener into this subculture of women who risk alienation from their families and wider communities because their “look” is oft times deemed as too far removed from what society is prepared to accept from its women.

Yes he is gay and yes he takes a wife - the story is not exact shown but it is there, so Hollywood has shown him as a Bi-sexual and that is better than making him a straight right?  Alexander loves his friend (Hephaistion (played by Jared Leto) .. I liked the film even if there is no real gay dialog between the two men....(although the "Directors Cut" has more gay in it !

All About My Father
(Original title: Alt om min far )

 Directed by Even Benestad
Norway: 2002: Documentary about transvestism:

If you're looking for a novelty, this is it! The director brought his camera home with him, filming his own father, the well-known transvestite Esben "Esther Pirelli" Benestad. We get to meet Esben's wife and dive deep into their personal lives.

The result is a very good account of one single-minded man living out his sexual identity to the max, and how his family has to deal with this. Nothing is censured, no one is spared. A hard-hitting documentary that has won several awards, and much praise from the critics.

Netherlands: 2007: 110 mins:
With:Carice Van Houten, Daan Schuurman, Paul de Leeuw, Wendy Van Dijk, etc.

I watch this film the other day and was pleasantly surprised at the gay story line. Amongst the heterosexual story lines about love and Christmas there is a love story about a young florist who is in love with a funeral director. They are planning their marriage when the funeral director starts to get cold feet about his relationship with the florist. All seems lost but will it really end there or will there be a happy ending at Christmas time. See this Dutch film to find out.

Note: the previous love film by this director had no gay content and is called Love Actually so don´t mix up the films and see the right one called All Is Love !

Director: John Erman Jr.
USA ; 1977 94 minutes: made for TV : Gay Drama
With: Leigh McCloskey as Alexander and Alan Feinstein as the gay football player:

In this made for TV film from 1997, one is totally surprised at the gay story line. It is the story of Alexander who moves to the city and can not find a job. So he takes up prostitution for both men and women and works on the streets of Hollywood. He falls in love with a gay football player but don't expect a gay happy end for this was another time in our history and so the story ends with Alexander changing his ways. He takes a female prostitute and goes off into the sunset to live happier after?? - I doubt it!

This film is about two separate love affairs which occur in the city of Alexandria. The first is between a Jewish woman and a man who is Muslim. The second and more interesting for us is the affair between a well to do Arabic man and a English soldier.
It is interesting to see how the two cultures merge during a love affair.

I liked this film a lot ! It is the story of a gay dancer who has Aids. He seems to have lost the will to love and be loved. Then one day a older man comes into his life. He is not as good looking as the dancer and a little heavier and not the dancers usual hunk type. Well what occurs is a warming of the two to each other and try as the dancer may he know that this man is what he needs in his life... A good filming and a good story line make this film a must !

In World War II, the Nazis used to communicate in a secret code, using a machine called Enigma. Such an apparatus enabled them to perform surprising attacks, without the allies being aware. Steven O’Rourke is an American special agent, assigned to lead an offensive attack against the H20, the factory that makes the Enigma. The only problem is that there are only women working at the H20. O’Rourke is thus forced to think of a different tactic to infiltrate into the enemy’s field. Tony Parker and Archie are two flustered men from England with the mission to train and transform the ally soldiers into convincing employees of the Third Reich. To wrap up this action comedy, O’Rourke falls in love with Romy, an ally agent infiltrated into the factory.

Another gay movie

USA: 2006
Director: Todd Stephens
With: Michael Carbonaro, Jonathan Chase, Graham Norton, Lypsynka, Scott Thompson

You can’t possibly ask for anything gayer than this teen-comedy spoof! 4 gay high-school friends promise each other to lose their virginity before summer is over. Popping the “cherry” isn’t as easy as it sounds, though. They have catastrophic sex with S&M teachers, Survivor-winner Richard Hatch, gorgeous “studs” and a quiche pie..(don’t ask, see for yourself!) And the cherry stays intact..
Even describing the plot of this movie is difficult without using four-letter words, since this is
the dirtiest gay comedy that has come around for....well ever! The plot is more or less the same as in “American Pie”, including the food. There is a LOT of male nudity, and although it’s meant to be funny, it sometimes distracts us from the plot. Too many cute guys strutting their stuff tend to distract me, you know!!
Some nice scenes feature gay icon Lypsynka as a Joan Crawford-ish mother figure, a totally nude Richard Hatch signing books, and Graham Norton as exchange-teacher mr Puckov sporting the largest...eh....how do I say this...
OK, I won’t...
Worth a look for those who can stomach lots of talk about sex and tons of nudity. Anyone??

The town is a shocking place with lots of scandals happening and certainly some strange people living there. The  daughter is a lesbian and wants a baby so she fits right in. I enjoyed the people in this picture a lot and best of all the lesbian is a very well written one.

Any mother's son

Director: David Burton Morris
USA: 1997: made for TV: Real-life gay-murder
With: Bonnie Bedelia, Scott Gibson, Paul Popovich:

A young marine is beaten and murdered by fellow soldiers while on shore-leave in Japan and his mother discovers he was gay-bashed. It was a hate-crime. She takes on the Navy and the media to nail the guys who were responsible for her son's death.

This is based on a true story and it's certainly a shocking one. It turned out the Navy was out to hush-hush the true motive of the crime to save their own reputation and didn't want the case to even reach court! Fortunately, this kind of hideous justice looks to be a thing of the past in the U.S.A. And good riddance, too! Gays should and must get the same protection as everyone else!! Watch for a classic performance by Bonnie Bedelia as the mother, she is a big favourite of mine. A sombre, serious, but important TV-movie.

ARISAN is an Indonesian film about groups of friends who get together and socialize. Each one tries to out do the other for preparing their get together. The friends go through many relationships and each one has their story to tell. There is a closeted gay guy who will not say he is gay and wants to stay in the closet for many reasons such as protecting his family. In reality Sakti (the closeted gay man) and Nino (who is his lover) are the only sane ones in the film but are none the less the ones who have to hide their relationship. This film is a must see as homosexuality is repressed in this land but of course life for gays goes on. I enjoyed the film and learned a lot..

With: Jack Nicholson, Helen Hunt and Greg Kinnear as Melvin:

I was a little shocked at the anti gay language in this film but I soon got over it as Greg Kinnear in he role as Melvin was sooooooo good. It contained a lot of the use of the anti gay word but with Jack Nicholson as the neighbour who starts out with hate for his gay neighbour soon meets a waitress who he falls for (in his special way) and he soon learns to live and let live with his neighbour and in fact after all Melvin friends and family desert him he is there for him when he need him the most. So at least on bigot is changed in the world !

Note: This is a good film and you will either love it or hate it – I loved it…

Audrey Hepburn Story, The

USA: 2000: ABC TV Movie (first showing: 27.March.2000): Gay Character
With: Michael Burg as Truman Capote and Jennifer Love Hewitt as Audrey Hepburn:

Michael Burg as Truman Capote is a small role but a very important on to this TV Film. Breakfast at Tiffany's played a key role in Audrey´s life and was written by Truman. Audrey was taken with the author and his works. This ABC film tells her life story in flashbacks and after each of these it returns to her filming of Breakfast at Tiffany. Truman is played as a nasty queen who's work on the film involves bitching everyone out. In one scene Audrey must eat a pastry and when she keeps missing her lines Truman says:

"This is why I didn't want Hepburn -- she can't eat,"

and moans to the director

"Marilyn Monroe is who I wanted; Marilyn Monroe knows how to eat."

Note: Michael Burg is really good as Truman Capote (one can hope that he will get to play Truman in a longer role than just a few minutes) and Jennifer Love Hewitt is certainly a double for Audrey Hepburn I do not know when this will air in Europe but keep your eyes open and enjoy the TV film when you see it.
